The Design Engineer, Facilities position will design Information and Communications Technology (ICT) infrastructure.
Design aspects include equipment enclosures, low-voltage cable pathway, firestopping, grounding/bonding, Inside Plant (ISP) fiber optic and copper cabling, -48V DC power systems, and Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS).
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reviewing and understanding complex project solicitations.
Developing and fielding subcontractor bid packages.
Developing Cost Basis of Estimate (BoE), including assigning labor hour estimates, materials, travel expenses, management, etc.
Studying and selecting most suitable products for both Best Value (BV) and Lowest Price Technically Acceptable (LPTA) designs.
Developing technical assumptions and assigning Customer/Vendor Contributions.
Identifying and minimizing technical and contractual risks.
Creating project schedules and identifying major milestones.
Creating customer-facing proposal documentation.
Performing high- and low-level site surveys to assess existing conditions, issues and utilization.
Developing complex, multi-faceted survey reports and recommended corrective actions.
Development of drawing package, list of material (LOM), method of procedure (MOP), system acceptance test (SAT) plan, scope of work (SOW) and any other specifications required to complete a project design. NOTE: Computer-Aided Design (CAD) work performed by others.
Attending design and collaboration meetings with teammates, other disciplines and Customer representatives.
Providing technical support to Project Managers (PM) and Installation Technicians throughout project lifecycle.
Ensuring compliance with all relevant internal, Customer and industry standards, policies and procedures.
Performing engineering calculations including cable tray and conduit fill ratios, bend radius, battery runtime, voltage drop, etc.
Up to 50% travel required for this position
Understanding of network infrastructure design requirements
Understanding of telecommunications project lifecycle from solicitation to final inspection
Familiar with current version of BICSI best practices
Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Able to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical personnel
Comfortable working in a high-visibility environment
Self-motivated and self-correcting; Organized and Dependable; Detailed-oriented
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
High school graduate or equivalent
BICSI Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) or Data Center Design Consultant (DCDC)
Four (4) years of experience in a design/engineering role
Federal government sector experience preferred
